Organic Tahini

Our organic tahini can be enjoyed by the spoonful - or so we were told, without needing to be mixed with other ingredients. Given the quality of our sesame seeds and the care we put into making our tahini, it is no wonder that it is a treat of its own.

  • We produce our organic tahini using local sesame seeds from the Gökova region in Turkey. Sesame seeds grown in Gökova are prized throughout the world for their unique taste, aroma and golden colour. Our seeds are cultivated without any chemicals and are roasted to perfection - not too little, not too much - just enough to bring out their nutty sweetness and golden tint. The roasted unhulled seeds are stone-ground to produce a sesame paste which is like no other in taste and appearance. Unlike common tahinis, ours has no hint of bitterness, and its deep golden color stands out next to the pale-colored tahinis on the market.
  • Benefits of Organic Tahini
  • Tahini has been a staple of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern diets for centuries and has now gained worldwide popularity due to a growing awareness of its health benefits. It is recognized both as a healthy fat and a concentrated source of antioxidants and essential nutrients.
  • Tahini is made from sesame seeds which contain about 50 to 60% high quality oil and about 20% protein. As such, it is both a source of healthy polyunsaturated fatty acids and of protein, surpassing both milk and most other seeds and nuts in protein content.
  • Like sesame seeds, tahini is a source of two unique compounds called sesamin and sesamolin. These compounds have been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease by regulating blood lipid and cholesterol levels, and by reducing high blood pressure. They also protect against cancer due to their antioxidant properties.
  • Tahini is an excellent source of the essential minerals calcium and iron. Calcium is crucial for preserving bone health and preventing osteoporosis. Calcium intake is particularly important for women as they tend to have thinner bones and suffer from bone loss after menopause. While dairy is perceived as the go-to source for calcium, tahini is a good way to include more calcium in one’s diet without having to worry about either antibiotic or hormone traces in dairy products or lactose intolerance. Tahini is also a good way to increase one’s iron intake, which helps supply cells with adequate amounts of oxygen and therefore prevents fatigue.
  • As far as vitamins are concerned, tahini is not only an excellent source of B vitamins, which are required for a fully functioning metabolism and nervous system, it also promotes the absorptıon of vitamin E. Vitamin E protects the body from damage caused by oxidative stress and therefore helps prevent age-related diseases such as heart disease and cancer.
  • How to Use Organic Tahini
  • Tahini has a rich, nutty taste and a creamy, mouth-coating texture. Our tahini can be enjoyed on its own, though tahini is most commonly mixed with both savory and sweet ingredients in a variety of dishes
  • The rich, nutty flavor and lush texture of tahini enhance the sweetness of any kind of sweet syrup, be it grape or pomegranate molasses, or honey, and the result is both a delicious and nutritious spread which can be enjoyed on bread. In the Middle East, tahini is used as an essential ingredient in desserts such as halva and sweet tahini bread.

Did You Know?

In a tahini jar, it is natural for a layer of sesame oil to form at the surface. Simply stirring the tahini will combine the oil with the solids and make it ready for use

Sesame oil was mentioned by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus in the fifth century BCE as the only oil used by the Babylonians, and today’s scientific research confirmed its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
